“The Bridge That Couldn't Be Built” Golden Gate Bridge Usa

by admin

it is only a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. But the certain features and the excellence of its design have proclaimed it as a modern wonder of 21st century.

Marvelously, yet conveniently linking San Francisco with Marin County Golden Gate with the total length of the bridge spanning 1.2 miles, The Golden Gate Bridge held the title of the longest suspension bridge for a long long time. The bridge sways 27 feet to withstand winds of up to 100 miles per hour. It is indeed, a miracle especially considering the era of its making that is remembered in the history as the “Years of Great Depression”. During these years, the might of human fought with the worst of weathers, persistent fog, 60-mile-per-hour winds, and strong ocean currents. At several times, when the strength of human gave way to pessimism the bridge was considered as absolute impossibility.

At the day of its impeccable completion in May 27, 1937 It came as a both pleasant yet shocking surprise to those who once title the Golden Gate Bridge as the “Bridge that couldn’t be built.”

Over 200,000 people celebrated the grand opening of the Golden Gate Bridge by walking its length. The following day, a dedication ceremony was held to officially inaugurate what would become the architectural icon of the country and still remains one. The regular flow of vehicular traffic began the next day. Although it took a little more than four years of constant hardships, unforgiving natural elements and encounters with impossibilities, to construct this wonder of architecture and design; but the result as we can see today, is significant. Even today, the massive spans of the bridge are often shrouded in fog. Tragically, eleven men lost their lives during the construction of this mighty bridge. The expenditure, $35 million but the hopes and efforts uncountable.

One important fact about the design of this living monument is the selection of the color. Today, we can not imagine the Golden Gate Bridge in any other color but orange. It must have been a tough choice. In 1933, the braniac architect selected the color Orange to blend well with the bridge’s natural surroundings. The two great cables extending from the bridge contain 80,000 miles of steel wire, which is enough to circle the equator three times. The concrete poured to cement the bridge into the stormy waters below could have also been used to pave a five-foot sidewalk from New York to San Francisco, but the Impossible bridge, we have today is worth it.

Today, it is the existence of the Golden Gate Bridge that has evolved San Francisco as one of the premier skyline cities in the nation. Although it may still may be a supreme means of transportation, however to many it is the reason that attracts them to USA. Millions of tourists flock to get amazed by this suspended attraction. Also, tourism is largely supported in the USA and many airlines from round the world fly on daily basis offering cheap flights to USA. The ultimate gateway to the country is New York as there is a much larger number of airlines that fly back and forth from London to New York on daily basis. Also, from New York hourly flights depart to all top attractions of the USA. For more on cheap flights to New York USA visit Travelhouseuk.

That's "Don't look back" by Boston. I think it came out in 1978

  2. Yes, Spirited Away! Did it slip your mind to mention it was animated!?

  3. "FQ: How would you feel about the Kaka deal if it was YOUR team with billions to spend and offering £100million?"

I would feel that my club has become a house built on quick sand, and that its also become the toy of a capricious Sheikh who lives his life in a parallel universe. But then, being short sighted has never been one of my many faults.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a big money investor take over at West Brom, but one that would build the club up properly, not try to sign a squad of galactico's within five minutes of walking into the boardroom, and leave us all in fear of what would happen if he gets bored and goes for a Burton.

Last year there was a rumour that Oleg Deripaska was interested in buying West Brom, this news was greeted by West Brom fans with scepticism more than anything else. But the prospect caused as much, if not more trepidation, than excitement.

What would happen to Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham or Wigan if their owners decided to call it a day and cash their chips in?

I'd rather muddle on as we are, than risk doing a Leeds Utd style nose dive due to toxic debts.

The question I have for you is; how would you feel about the Kaka deal if it WASN'T YOUR team with billions to spend and offering £100million, and £500k a week wages?

    he's not your brother-in-law.
    he's your brother-in-law's brother.
but whether or not he's related to you, he's a douche for doing that. guys are stupid around other people. just ignore it and if he does it again, either pull him aside and tell him how serious that was and that it's not something to joke about… or tell an adult who already knows about it and understands how serious this is.
just don't let this get you down. he's a stupid boy. he doesn't use his brain half the time.

    Definition of bridge:

    3. Nautical. a. a raised transverse platform from which a power vessel is navigated: often includes a pilot house and a chart house.
    b. any of various other raised platforms from which the navigation or docking of a vessel is supervised.

This was where the captain and navigator were housed. Star-fleet is based on Naval terminology.

  6. I remember this from the Tribeca Film Festival. I have a link to the trailer below. Nobody knows yet when it will be released. I think they are trying to get a wider release in theaters before going to DVD. I have heard of dates from October 27, 2006. Others say October 2007. No real consensus.

    A summary of the film:
Inspired by a New Yorker story, "Jumpers," written by Tad Friend, director Eric Steel decided to train cameras on the Golden Gate Bridge over the course of 2004 to capture the people who attempted to leap off the famed structure, the site of more suicides than anywhere else in the world. He also tracked down and interviewed the friends, family members, and eyewitnesses to further recreate the events leading up to the incident and to try to explain what led these people to want to kill themselves, especially at this specific site. The documentary's primary subjects all struggled with mental illness, including severe depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorders, and the documentary struggles to understand their illness while illuminating the anger and hurt of their loved ones. Most questions remain unanswered, turning on the darker recesses of the mind. The shots of the bridge wreathed in fog turn the Golden Gate into a metaphor for a bridge between life and death, sanity and mental disturbance, and extreme isolation and connection with society. Though the camera crew worked with a set of guidelines, including that they would call in someone they thought was going to jump, the documentary still includes lengthy footage of the moments leading up to and including the suicides, so discretion is advised for sensitive viewers.

    Hope this helps!

What a bunch of jerks. That's not something someone should joke about. Take it from me…One of me best poems is entitled "The Blood Dripping From My Wrists". Anyway talk to him about it. Don't be afraid to show emotion so he can understand that its no joke. Cry if you feel it coming. Release your feelings. Also can I suggest getting your more feeling out in a more constructive way? Write poems or paint. I wish you luck. :-)
