We never claimed to be a perfect country or a perfect system.  

We are quite free to make jackasses out of ourselves... and we&#039;re free to disagree with our government and with each other over it - without fear of retribution or persecution.

As for our politicians, we certainly do not have a monopoly on them lying - no country can claim the majority of their political figures are honest.

Did we support anti-Soviet dictators in the past?  You bet we did and we should not regret doing so.  You&#039;re too young to fully appreciate the cold war, when the USSR wanted to dominate the world.

And we all know the pitfalls of going too far right or left.  We cannot always agree on what too far is, though.
